The Brass King goes after the world famous percussionist and music pioneer MONGO SANTAMARIA unique sounds and adds his ROYAL composition in the mix to highlight some of MONGO's unique and rare sound alongside some of South Florida's elite talent on a rare collaboration..... featuring Carmen Skyy, P.O.W. Power of Words, LEE (Square Egg) & Poettis........ Commissioned by SOULFRITO (Soulful Latin Flava) is a lifestyle and entertainment brand focused on capturing the essence of Urban Latino culture. Soulfrito’s events are renowned for effectively reaching “New Generation Latinos,” an under-represented yet burgeoning youth market consisting of a massive and diverse group of Urban Latino cultural enthusiasts. and produced by Above Ground Music (2008) Everyday Above Ground is a GOOD DAY! Mongo Santamaria was a rumba quinto master and an Afro-Cuban Latin jazz percussionist. He is most famous for being the composer of the jazz standard "Afro Blue," recorded by John Coltrane among others. In 1950 he moved to New York where he played with Perez Prado, Tito Puente, Cal Tjader, Fania All Stars, etc. He was an integral figure in the fusion of Afro-Cuban rhythms with R&B and soul, paving the way for the boogaloo era of the late 1960s. His 1963 hit rendition of Herbie Hancock's "Watermelon Man" was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1998.
